Brake Safety Week is a great time to inspect your trucks' brakes. Here are a few things to look for:

  • Missing, malfunctioning, cracked, or loose parts
  • Rusted out holes
  • Spring Brake broken or worn
  • Air leaks
  • Air pressure in the target range of 90-100 psi
  • Pushrods
  • Slack adjusters
  • Mismatched air chamber sizes across axles
  • Warning lights
  • Proper operation of the tractor protection system, including the bleed-back system on the trailer
  • The breakaway system being operable on the trailer

It is also a good idea to schedule routine daily, weekly, and monthly checks.
