How it works
Once you’re selected for the training program, Vander Haag’s, Inc. will provide you with a set of tools and a certified mentor technician to help guide you through the training. Your mentor will assist you with completing our 12-module training program. Once all of the modules are completed, you will be a certified Vander Haag’s Diesel Service Technician.Of course, your learning opportunities don’t stop there. Vander Haag’s also provides an in-house ASE Certified trainer and ASE certification bonuses for you to continue to grow and develop as a Diesel Technician!

Training Program
Life is complicated. Starting a new career shouldn’t be.Here at Vander Haag’s, we’ve simplified the technician training process into 12 basic hands-on shop modules. Training topics within each module vary from shop safety and truck operation to electrical and engine diagnostics. Each step along the way, Vander Haag’s provides you with a mentor to provide hands-on training inside an actual service shop. We also provide you with technology-friendly learning devices (tablets, etc.) to help you apply what you’re learning.
Vander Haag’s, Inc. works on all makes and models, so your training will give you the opportunity to work on something different each day!
Your Mentor
Your training mentor will be an experienced Diesel Service Technician who already has (or is in the process of becoming) ASE Certified. Your mentor has also been certified by Vander Haag’s, Inc. in each of the 12 modules that you will complete throughout your training.During your training, your mentor will be working closely with you on a 1:1 basis. Your mentor will be available to help answer questions, provide advice and direction, and help ensure that what you’re learning is applied in a hands-on environment right there in the service shop.
In addition to your mentor, we’ll surround you with a team that checks in with your on a regular basis to help answer any questions and serve as a guide on your new career with Vander Haag’s, Inc.!
Tools
No tools? No problem.Once you’re selected for the training program, Vander Haag’s will provide you with a full set of hand tools that you’ll need to get started in your new career path. Once you successfully complete the training program, the tools are yours to keep. The expense of the tool set is forgiven over the course of your next two years of employment with Vander Haag’s, Inc. All large shop tools (air impacts, etc.) are provided by Vander Haag’s, Inc.
Timeframe
How long will it take for me to complete this training?Most trainees complete their training within 6 – 9 months. Trainees are paid for the entire time that they are in training, and once complete, they are a Vander Haag’s certified Diesel Technician.
Pay
Earn a full time paycheck while you learn! You will earn an hourly rate here at Vander Haag’s, Inc. The amount of your hourly rate varies widely depending on your prior experience and qualifications. Most trainees will typically start anywhere from $20 - $23/hour.
Hours
Training will occur during day shift hours, Monday through Friday at all of our locations. Your exact schedule may vary slightly based on business necessity and Vander Haag’s store locationBenefits
